Melinda Vasseur

Preschool Director

Melinda Smith Vasseur has served as the Director of Immanuel Preschool for the past three years, but her roots at Immanuel run deep - she taught at the preschool from 2003 to 2022. Before joining the preschool team, she worked at Easter Seals, where she helped students and adults with disabilities find and maintain meaningful employment through the Supported Employment program.

What’s one thing people might not know about you?
I'm a huge Anne of Green Gables fan, and soon I’ll be traveling with friends to Prince Edward Island—home of Anne Shirley herself! It’s been a lifelong dream to walk where L.M. Montgomery’s beloved character “found kindred spirits.”

What are you up to when you’re not at work?
I love to travel, especially to Louisville where both of my boys now live after attending the University of Louisville (go Cards!). I also enjoy playing pickleball, running, sewing, crafting, and getting lost in a fabulous book.

What is your favorite part about serving at Immanuel Preschool?
For many families, Immanuel Preschool is the very first time they’ve entrusted their child to non-family members. It’s a gift to witness the growth, connection, and love that blooms between our teachers, preschool friends, and the families we serve. It’s even more meaningful when those same families find a home at Immanuel Baptist Church.

What else would you like to share?
I began teaching at Immanuel Preschool in 2003, when my boys were just six and two years old. It gave me the best of both worlds—a creative, engaging workplace and the chance to remain a plugged-in mama. Over 20 years later, I still adore what this preschool provides to children, families, and staff. It continues to be a place of joy, growth, and community.
