Missions

Local Missions

Immanuel believes that mission begins at home. We seek to be a people who live out our motto: embracing others in the spirit of Jesus. The members and friends of Immanuel Baptist Church are involved in many types of ministries that seek to offer help, healing, and hope to people in our community. Some of these ministries seek to encourage those who serve as ministers of care in various places.

Utility Assistance

Immanuel offers limited utility assistance to individuals and families in our community through our Assistance Request ministry. Applications are reviewed twice each month, and those selected may receive help with a current utility bill, paid directly to the utility company. Submission of a form does not guarantee assistance.

You may apply in one of two ways: complete the form online or print it and bring it to the church office with any required supporting documents.

Mission Meal

Once a month, members of our congregation prepare, serve, and share a dinner with the residents of River City Mission, an area homeless shelter. This meal takes place on the third Thursday of each month.

Family Service Society

Immanuel collects monthly contributions of staple food items to support the ministry of Family Services. Look for the bin outside the office and check the Clarion to see what we’re collecting each month.

Habitat for Humanity

Immanuel has been very active in building houses through Habitat for Humanity by purchasing and installing the insulation for every house that Habitat builds. In 1999, we built our first house from start to finish. Immanuel was a part of the 2006 Apostle’s Build, a cooperative effort of local congregations to build a home.

Paducah Cooperative Ministries

Immanuel provides financial support for PCM through our regular budget, but also supports PCM in other ways as well. Food collections are held on both a church-wide and small group level throughout the year. In 2005, members of Immanuel were also integral to the renovation of the building PCM now calls home. When PCM envisioned the Fresh Start Village, Immanuel embraced the challenge of furnishing the first house in the fall of 2015.

Friendship International

This ministry of the Baptist Women of the West Union Baptist Association meets each Thursday at Immanuel. Volunteers are needed to befriend internationals moving to Paducah, to teach English as a second language, to teach crafts, and to lead Bible studies.

A Comforting Presence

Following the death of a member of our congregation, we offer to prepare and serve a meal for the family in their home or at the church. Volunteers prepare dishes for the meal and/or serve the meal. Contact person: Nancy Holm.

Share the Joy

Each Christmas, members and friends of Immanuel assist less-advantaged families in our community with Christmas. Volunteers are needed to conduct interviews, to shop, to wrap presents, and to package Christmas food baskets. Names, ages, and sizes are shared with members of Immanuel who purchase the Christmas gifts for children. The church provides underclothing and socks.

Financial Support

Immanuel also financially supports several mission/ministry organizations in our area and around the world. Through our budget, we give financially to local ministries: Paducah Cooperative Ministry and River City Mission, as well as local benevolence gifts. We support mission work throughout the state and around the world through gifts to the Baptist World Alliance and as an Encourager Church with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.

International Missions

Current:

Immanuel Baptist Church is proud to be an Encourager Church in covenant partnership with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and our mission partners, Jade and Shelah Acker, and the Center of Refuge and Hope International in Uganda.

Through this partnership, Immanuel commits to praying regularly for our mission partners, sharing their ministry updates with our congregation, encouraging deeper involvement in missions, and providing faithful financial support for their work.

Former:

From 1996 to 2020, Immanuel was deeply involved in supporting the life and work of the Klintsy Baptist Church in Klintsy, Russia. During this time, more than 90 members of the congregation felt led to go to Russia as team members of one of our annual mission teams. While in Russia, we worked with children's Bible camps, helped lead worship, offered services in nearby villages, and simply encouraged the believers in Klintsy through our presence. Over the years, Immanuel also supported the believers in Klintsy through our prayers, calls, letters, and financial support.
